THE BOAT

S/V Salt Whistle is a 1985 Whitby 42′, ketch rig.  We bought her in April of 2013 in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands and we moved aboard in July of 2013, staying on a mooring in Great Cruz Bay, St. John.
Whitby 42 specifications

This boat was manufactured in Canada, and later came down to the US Virgin Islands.  The previous owner used Salt Whistle as a charter vessel.  Then, sadly, she sat unused for about 10 years.  Needless to say, she was a project boat.  A fixer-upper.

We decided to move across the Pillsbury Sound to St. Thomas in September of 2013 because we had so much work to do on Salt Whistle.  St. John is an amazingly beautiful island, a true paradise...but it just didn't have the stores we needed for buying the parts and materials necessary for fixing Salt Whistle.

First we lived at Sapphire Marina on the East End of St. Thomas, then we moved over to Compass Point Marina in the Mangroves for cheaper dockage and more protection from hurricanes.

We began our cruising adventures in June of 2015.  We made it down to Grenada, south of the hurricane belt by August. We will wait out hurricane season here in Grenada.  We hope to eventually take Salt Whistle sailing around the globe!
